Fundamentals of fair server authoritative networking

High Level overview

  • The game is a multiplayer 2D top down shooter.
  • We used Mirror for high level networking and the transport was ssl webrtc.
  • I followed serveral industry standards for networking i.e client side prediction, server reconciliation, and lag compensation to make the gameplay smooth.
  • Hosted 3 headless unity builds on 3 ports on my VPS all managed by pm2.
